Initiatives to upgrade substations are taking precedence over other electricity infrastructure capital investments. Nations committed to Smart Grid deployment are prioritizing efforts by investing first in substation automation and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) that can improve processes connected to electricity distribution. Some regions are more committed than others and differ on their methodological choices for upgrade approach.
